History

The Streamline Shipping Group was established in 1981, operating liner services from Aberdeen to the west coast of Norway in the midst of the 1980's oil boom.

In 1984 the company commenced a scheduled container freight service from Aberdeen to Shetland. Comprehensive stevedoring facilities begin trading during 1985. The company expanded in 1987 when additional container freight services to Orkney were introduced to provide the Islands with freight solutions.

During 1989 the Streamline Shipping Group diversified by offering a variety of logistics services including UK haulage, transport, distribution and warehousing, specialising in the Scottish door-to-door market.

In early 1990 the company opened its distribution depot in Glasgow, providing English and Scottish Central Belt clients with a 'one stop shop' facility for full loads, part loads, pallets and groupage. From this depot, delivery throughout the whole of Scotland was provided for all type of goods, specialising in the North and Islands.

This delivery service delivered all types of goods throughout the whole of Scotland, specialising in the North and Islands. At the same time, Streamline Shipping introduced an innovative service guarantee in the form of a POD control system - No POD - No delivery charge.

In 1995 the company continued its expansion with the purpose built Head Office and Terminal facilities in Aberdeen. In 1996 a new enhanced Shetland depot was built to improve freight services in the Northern Isles.

The International Freight Forwarding division was established in Glasgow depot during 2003 to provide international shipping services, including import and export services by road, sea and air, to European and Worldwide clients.

The Glasgow depot relocated to larger facilities in 2005 to meet increased demand for warehousing, transport and specialist home delivery services.

2006 saw the company introduce its largest ever containership (mv 'Daroja' capacity 290 x 20' containers) to provide a large container freight service to the Orkney and Shetland route from Aberdeen.

Extensive 'rolling' investment programme continued during 2007 bringing the container fleet up to over 700 x 20' assorted containers providing freight solutions in the Northern Isles trade.

In May 2008 the Scottish Government declared the lift-on lift-off containership freight service, a vital 'lifeline' operation and awarded the Streamline Shipping Group subsidiary (Shetland Line 1984 Ltd) a significant six year quay to quay vessel operating subsidy, providing long term stability to all freight users on the Orkney and Shetland Isles lo-lo service.

In July 2008, Streamline Shipping Group announced plans to build a brand new purpose built depot in Orkney on a prime two acre site for completion during 2009.
